Marriage: Take a Look

Paul and I made a revelation in our marriage this past weekend.

1. Communication is freakin key.
Not only with telling each other what's going on with our relationship, but taking a step back and looking at what's going on with my own life.

And 2. Don't loose who you are from when it was just you.
I absolutely loved being single. I did what I wanted, whenever I wanted, and never turn down the chance for fun. One night I would be out bowling, the next day horseback riding, and golfing every chance I could get. But, now that I'm married I've gotten that confused with not doing anything unless both of us can or want to do it. Big mistake. There is no problem with still having a spice for life, especially if your work schedules don't match up perfectly.

I'm looking forward to changing my thought process on what's "right" to do in my marriage and rekindling my time with Paul.

TV Replacements: Painting Class

I've always wanted to take a painting class. So when Casey, of The Little Artsy, told me she had an adult art class coming up, I knew without hesitation that I wanted to join in!

I left work late, so I showed up a hour into the class and she made me feel like I didn't miss a step. She immediately taught me that it was all about layers and then let me go to town! There were absolutely no rules and I didn't pick up a paint brush once. I rolled over paint, smeared it around with paper towels, squished water over it to make it drip, and slathered a glossy varnish over the top to make the colors pop. It was the most relaxing, fun time I have had in awhile.

I'm desperate to do it again, but this time I want to bring some friends! Let me know if you're interested and we can make our own special class. She provides the canvas and all the supplies for only $50, and you get to walk out at the end of the night with a piece of art, created by you, to hang proudly on your wall! So special!

Beauty: It's Harder Than it Looks

I'm starting to be pretty impressed with girls that have it all together, all the time. It's a lot of maintenance to be polished. I'll go get a manicure, pedicure and eyebrow wax and by the time I turn around my nails are chipping and little sneaky eyebrow hairs are growing back! And don't get me started on shaving, tanning, moisturizing, exfoliating, hair cuts and fashion. How do they do it? Is there some secret that no one has let me in on?!

I'm a five minute get ready girl. Now don't assume that's how long it takes me to get ready in the morning. I take my sweet precious time in the shower, snuggling with pets, talking to Paul, watching the news and basically anything but getting ready. I'll then start running around screaming that I'm going to be late and I throw on some clothes, brush my teeth, swipe some mascara and run out the door, begging Paul to take Sergeant out to go potty because I'm running behind.

Do these girls have the perfect routine down or are they running around crazily too, but just show up really late to everything? ...If you know the answer, please, don't be stingy, share!

Religion: Improvement Needed

I'm a fair weather Christian, actually an un-fair weather Christian.

That literally might be the hardest thing I'll ever have to admit. But, it's honestly true. When the chips are down and I'm going through a mental crisis, I lean all my weight on Him. But I've come to find out that when it's smooth sailing, I look to myself for inspiration.

When I look back at my closest times with the Lord, it was when I was going through a rough relationship or when I was lonely and alone. It's so easy to think of Him when you're scared, crying in your bed or needing His help. When you're having fun, running around with no worries, it actually takes effort to put time into your relationship with Jesus. That's where my problem comes in, I'm blessed to have this problem and it's mine to work on.

How lucky am I that I have a God that knows my faults and forgives me anyways?

Fitness: Ashtanga Yoga - Dallas Yoga Center

So I was telling my friend Travis about Bikram Yoga and he insisted that his yoga, Ashtanga, was harder. So, after some banter back and forth we decided to make a challenge and that we both try each others yoga and then decided once and for all, who's was harder.

First I tried his. ...and, I LOVED it! It was actually a lot of fun! I felt like a school kid again and could barely contain my smile the whole time. It was flowy, twisty, bendy and at one point I literally couldn't get out of the position. I'm actually sitting here barely able to focus because I want to jump up and down and say "lets do it again!"

Priya was our teacher and I couldn't of asked for more from her. She was so peaceful and calm, yet fun. You could tell that she loved yoga and wanted you to get everything out of it. I highly recommend this place and feel free to join me any time! I'm definitely going back!

...It's been interesting relearning my body. I guess you don't notice when you put on a little bit of weight until your on your back with your knees bent over you to your ears, when you notice you have a few more fat rolls than you did before. It's hard to notice them when your belly button is literally in your face. It will be fun to see how my body changes as it gets reintroduced to a thing called endorphins.

Let's see if Travis can handle Bikram.

Health: Salad - Duh!

If you know me at all, you know that I don't eat salad. It all started after getting my gallbladder removed and I've never been a real fan of them. But, I would make my husband a salad to go with dinner and recently tried it and loved it. I make a salad now before almost every dinner. Thought I would share with you how simple it is, if you were like me and didn't like green stuff.

Just throw: mixed greens, cucumbers, tomatoes, mozzarella balls, dried cranberries, broccoli sprouts, sliced almonds with olive oil and balsamic dressing. Yum, yum.

Fitness: Bikram Yoga - Mockingbird

I woke up feeling so excited about this challenge. It has already changed my outlook on what I want to make of my day. ...I decided to give myself a weigh and see what we're looking at, since I haven't technically been on a work-out routine in a while now. 151.6, not too bad. When I'm in great physical shape, I'm usually around 135-140.

Awhile ago, I fell through some stairs and hurt my back really bad. It has changed my physical life completely. Trust me it could be worst, but when you have to stop some of your favorite activities like golf, horseback riding and can't control when it hurts ...it stinks.

So, today I decided to go back to my favorite workout: Bikram Yoga. The first thing I had to sign when I got there was a little form that asked why you're there and when I saw Back Pain was listed, I knew I had made the right choice to give this a shot again.

If you have never done or heard of Bikram Yoga, I'll give you a little background. It is a hour and a half long yoga class in a 105 degree room. Your first time challenge is just to stay in the room the whole time. You sweat so much that you literally can ring your clothes out after class! This yoga is sooo great for your back, skin and organs. I made the mistake of taking the focus off me for one second to witness the sweat flinging off the older man in front of me. After that I didn't take my eyes off me in the mirror another time.

So, here I am, I showered up and ready to move on to learning how to ride my new scooter...
